“People protect what they love, they love what they understand & they understand what they are taught” (Jacques Cousteau)
A huge well done to Paul Jefferies, Anna-Marie Watson & their team for the herculean efforts to pull the event off. We get to experience the serene swan on the surface, but I know that there had been many months of hard paddling below. Looking forward to next year’s event already!
Three thoughts that stuck with me (there were many more):
- Biophilia or the innate human tendency to connect with nature is not just a nice to have – it is essential for wellbeing & can add up to 5 years to life expectancy (Source: Lancet) but only if you have access to it. Just being in it is great but truly connecting with it is where the magic really happens. If you want to learn more you can download an evidenced based report at https://mindovermountains.org.uk/pages/naturemind-conference
- We are the places we frequent the most & those who have daily environmental contact are 3.5 times more likely to act environmentally. As it was described…” just because we are not tuned into the frequency does not mean the radio is not broadcasting”.
- Nothing of what I am saying here is new news. ‘Attention Restoration Theory’ (Source: Kaplan) has been around for the over 30 years now but it feels post pandemic & with life doing its thing currently, that now more than ever there is a need for something more than most of us are getting.
Coaching (particularly outdoors) has a growing role to play & so if you are interested in understanding more, then have a listen to the podcast on the https://coaching-outdoors.com/ maybe even do it outdoors!
