Over the past week, I’ve worked with two very different teams who chose to do exactly that.
Did they have spare capacity sitting neatly in their diaries?
Of course not.
They had a new year.
New goals.
New customer demands.
And yet, they still made the decision to pause.
Why?
Think of it like a catapult…
Pulling back gave them clarity on the target.
Space to aim at the right things.
Confidence in what to release – and what to let go of.
That pause allowed them to scan the horizon, dispense with what was no longer serving them, and create forward momentum that was focused, not frantic.
The result?
Less force.
More direction.
Greater impact.
So, if your team feel like they’re constantly “hammering it” (whatever your “it” is), maybe it’s time to try a catapult instead.
After all, “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” (Maslow)
