I have mentioned before about how much I love a badge or a certificate, so to get both in the same month for two different things has been most pleasing!
When I started out with my change of career a little over two years ago a good friend & former colleague said I shouldn’t bother with any coach training as I was in his eyes already a “good coach”.
It was meant as a compliment rather than being aimed at saving me time & money. I carried on regardless in part to check if I was as good as he thought, to prove something to myself & most importantly to give potential future clients the confidence to work with me.
Two years down the line & I have two coaching qualifications (an iLM Level 7 in Executive Coaching & Mentoring from the team at inspired2learn Coaching & Mentoring Qualifications & most recently my Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching from Henley Business School) & today I passed the International Coaching Federation credentialing exam for their Associate Certified Coach!
Does it make me a brilliant coach – not at all, it merely validates I have studied for a set amount of hours & to a high standard, had my practical coaching assessed on a number of occasions & coached my own clients for more than 100 hours as well as undertaking supervision.
What it does give me is the confidence in my ability to coach & what it gives my prospective clients is the confidence that the person they are choosing to work with takes what they do seriously enough to study, get validated & adhere to a governing body’s professional code of ethics.
A big thanks to all those who have taught, learnt with, supported & encouraged me over the past two years & in particular to my clients who have allowed me to be part of their world & hopefully make a difference.
What next? Year two of an MSc in Coaching for Behavioural Change is about to kick off, so some reading to do…. but if there is a certificate or badge at the end of it – then count me in!
