Facilitating & delivering team days is one part exhausting & two parts exhilarating – at times it can feel like a 6–8-hour performance where there are no other actors, no ushers asking people to remain seated & often three intervals but no small pots of ice cream! There is a well-rehearsed script that often ends up with plenty of ad lib as the brief takes on a life of its own when teams come together, change their context & feel free to explore.
But that is why I do it & there is little that is more rewarding than having been trusted to work with a group on a topic, to then see the breakthroughs emerge, clarity appear & connections strengthen.
I worked with a wonderful team of 16 this week exploring how they could better communicate internally in service of their external customers & partners. What a group – funny, wise, self-aware as well as being honest & challenging of themselves & of each other.
I am always minded that the energy & excitement that we create together has to stand up to the reality of life back in the muck & bullets of the day to day…I think they will be just fine.
